Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years later as a general reporter. 1981 she started covering at the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. She was made the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell is a regular on the TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She was a member of an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled together with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to summits and debate issues such as the Iran Contra controversy.
